Enslaved and tortured under the burning sun for refusing to renounce his faith, Bilāl (ra) held firm, repeating 'One, One.' He was freed by Abū Bakr (ra) and became one of the most beloved Companions.
Blessed with a beautiful voice, he was chosen as the first muezzin of Islam, calling the believers to prayer, and on the day Makkah was conquered he gave the adhān from atop the Kaʿbah.
