The Conquest of Makkah
Makkah is entered almost without bloodshed; the Kaʿbah is cleansed.
When Quraysh broke the treaty, the Prophet ﷺ marched on Makkah with a great force, and the city was entered almost without bloodshed.
He forgave his former persecutors with the words, 'Go, for you are free,' and the Kaʿbah was cleansed of its idols and restored to the worship of Allah alone.
The verses revealed
When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest,
And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes,
Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.
