عليّ بن أبي طالب
ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib
The fourth Caliph · cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet ﷺ
Cousin of the Prophet ﷺ and raised in his household, ʿAlī (ra) was the first young person to embrace Islam. On the night of the Hijrah he slept in the Prophet's ﷺ bed to deceive the assassins, and he married the Prophet's ﷺ daughter Fāṭimah (ra). He was a standard-bearer in the battles and renowned for his courage.
Deeply learned in the Qur'an and the law, he was a reference for the Companions in knowledge and judgement. He became the fourth Caliph in a time of great trial, striving to uphold justice and unity.
