Pilgrims from Yathrib (Madinah) embraced Islam and, over two successive years, pledged their allegiance and protection to the Prophet ﷺ at ʿAqabah.
Their pledge prepared a home for Islam and made the migration possible; Muṣʿab ibn ʿUmayr was sent ahead to teach them.
