Brother of ʿAlī (ra) and cousin of the Prophet ﷺ, Jaʿfar (ra) led the believers who migrated to Abyssinia. Before the just Christian king, the Negus, he eloquently described Islam and recited from Sūrat Maryam, moving the king to tears and securing the Muslims' protection.
He was martyred at the Battle of Muʾtah after taking up the banner; the Prophet ﷺ said Allah had given him two wings to fly in Paradise, earning him the name Dhū al-Janāḥayn.
