The Boycott of Banū Hāshim

A harsh social and economic boycott confines the Prophet's clan for ~3 years.

When (CE)
616–619 CE
Where
Shiʿb Abī Ṭālib, Makkah

Quraysh imposed a total boycott on Banū Hāshim — no trade, no marriage, no dealings — confining them to the valley of Abū Ṭālib in conditions of severe hunger and hardship for about three years.

The boycott eventually collapsed when several Quraysh recognised its injustice and the pact document was found consumed, except for the name of Allah.

Reflections

  • Endurance through collective hardship; truth outlasts oppression.
