'Whoever of you comes to attend the Friday prayer, let him take a shower
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever of you comes to attend the Friday prayer, let him take a shower."
Explanation
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) affirms that it is recommended for whoever wants to attend the Friday prayer to take a shower like that which he takes from Janābah (major ritual impurity).
Benefits
- Affirming the Friday Ghusl (ritual bath) and the fact that it is Sunnah for the believer on Friday, preferably just before going to the prayer.
- Keenness on being clean and having a pleasant smell is among the Muslim's morals and manners, and this is more emphatic when meeting and sitting with people, especially during the Friday and congregational prayers.
- The Hadīth addresses those upon whom the Friday prayer is obligatory because they are the ones who attend it.
- It is recommended for the one who attends the Friday prayer to be clean. So, he should take a bath to remove the foul odors from his body, and he should wear perfume. However, if he makes ablution only, it will be sufficient for him.
